Something happened at work today and I don't know if I should just say nothing or apologize or do I need to adjust the way that I speak on a day to day basis? Perhaps he is misreading what I'm saying?? Today, I came in as I usually do to get the day's work from my boss. Some of the client names seemed familiar that he was telling me to work on, so I said about one of them, "Didn't I do that one already"? And the same to another one, but I was really just trying to refresh my memory. Well, I think he took it as I'm questioning him. He suddenly started saying (and I can tell he was not comfortable with this), "You know what? You always do that. I wouldn't be giving it to you if I didn't want you to do it. I'm the boss." And he went off like that. He wasn't yelling, but he shows his irritation at once. I said nothing but smiled cheerfully as I usually do and said okay. I left and pondered this and then realized that I think I do this because I'm thinking through (thinking out loud) about the work. I was lead to believe during the interview that this is a "stepping stone" to better accounting work. As such, I'm trying really hard to understand what's going on. I feel left out from what we do (he's always in a hurry and doesn't appear to want to show me anything) so I understand very little. So I'm basically just his secretary. Perhaps that's why he just wants me to "do the work" while I'm trying to actually understand it. ??? Or maybe it's the way I say, "Oh, I thought I did that last week," or "Didn't I do that recently?" What do you think??? What am I doing wrong? Should I apologize? Say nothing? His personality is very dry and not the most personable. I could deal with that fine -- but this felt threatening and I can't imagine working for him for a long time. :-(

p.s. I'm posting this here because I didn't see a forum for "THE MALE FACTOR" book.
